If you?re looking for the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef then be sure to head to Bundaberg. The town is located 368km north of Brisbane and features historic buildings mixed with modern architecture. As you drive through the countryside you?ll see fields and fields of sugarcane, one of the regions most famous exports. Be sure to check out the Bundaberg Rum Distillery and the tribute to Bundaberg?s favourite son, the aviator Bert Hinkler. If you?re looking for reef experiences head for the coral cays of Lady Musgrave or Lady Elliot Islands. There are some fabulous dive spots you can explore.
