Mary Street has been voted as one of Melbournes best streets and its easy to see why. Just a short stroll from St Kildas famous beach, the funky eating and shopping strips of Fitzroy and Acland Streets, together with a beautiful plane tree-lined street make it a prime spot. And for Victorian heritage grandeur, Fountain Terrace is a highly recommended St Kilda base, just 15 minutes from the CBD.

Penny and Heikki fell in love with the enormous 1880 villa and have set about turning it into a gracious city escape for guests. There are seven in-house rooms from which to choose - spoil yourself by taking the upstairs two-room spa suite with its own private verandah, though the other rooms are just as special with lavish furnishings and décor.

No need to venture too far in the morning for breakfast - the á la carte breakfasts at Fountain Terrace are definitely worth staying in for. Try home-made waffles with berry sauce, Finnish pancakes or perhaps smoked trout scrambled eggs and slow-baked tomatoes.
